After check-in, you’ll head through security screening, where you’ll place your personal items in a tray before passing through a body scanner. Need a hand? Just ask a security screening officer—they’re here to keep things moving and make sure you feel informed and comfortable as you go through.

Your boarding gate number will be displayed on the Flight Information Display Screens (FIDS) 40 minutes before departure. Check these screens regularly or view our website FIDs to stay updated on your flight’s status, boarding time, and any changes.
While you wait, take a moment to relax, grab a coffee, or explore the shops—your adventure starts here, so enjoy the terminal experience before your gate is announced.
Once your gate number is displayed, gather your belongings and head to your gate so you're ready to board.
If you require extra assistance, notify your airline during check-in or let a staff member know at the gate—they’ll be there to support you through the boarding process. What to expect at Security Screening
At Gold Coast Airport, international travellers first pass through domestic security screening before proceeding to the International Departures Lounge.
Here’s what to expect:
Domestic Security Screening
All passengers must go through domestic security screening to enter the secure area of the terminal.
Once cleared, relax in the domestic departures lounge and keep an eye on the Flight Information Display Screens (FIDS) for the message: “Please proceed to international.”
International Security Screening
When prompted by the FIDS, proceed to international security screening, where additional checks are required for international flights.
This includes screening for powders, liquids, aerosols, and gels (PLAGs) using body scanners and x-ray equipment.

Where to claim your TRS refund
If you’re eligible for the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS), you can claim your GST refund at the TRS desk located in the International Departures Lounge.It’s conveniently positioned at the top of the escalators and stairs, just before Heinemann Duty Free.

Gold Coast Airport does things a little differently
Boarding gate numbers for international flights are displayed one hour before departure, so sit back and relax in the International Departures Lounge until it’s time to head to your gate. Keep an eye on the Flight Information Display Screens (FIDS) throughout the terminal for updates.
How It Works for International Travelers
- Start in the domestic departure lounge until the message “Please proceed to international” appears on the flight departures screens.
- When prompted, proceed through international security to the International Departures Lounge, which opens approximately two hours before departure.
- Boarding gate numbers for international flights will appear on the FIDS one hour before boarding begins.
- Once your gate number is displayed, head straight to your gate to ensure boarding runs smoothly.
Passengers with mobility needs will have access to ramps or aerobridges where available for a more comfortable boarding experience. If you require additional assistance, let your airline know during check-in or speak to a staff member at the gate.

Do I have enough time to transit between international and domestic terminals?
The International and Domestic Arrivals and Departures are located within the same terminal building. If arriving from an International flight, proceed to the right as you exit the International Arrivals area to check in. If you are arriving on a Domestic flight, proceed through the Domestic Arrivals corridor and, upon exiting, turn left — the Check-In area is located within a short walking distance.
